How to Paint a Room? Paint Color Ideas.

Changing the color of a room is one of the easiest ways to improve its entire look and feel. Painting a room allows you to update its design and make the space feel brand-new. Choosing the right colors for room painting is key, and it is often best to consult a paint design expert to help you.

Color and Mood

Red color for interior

Color impacts mood, so change the visual impression of your room by choosing the right color for the mood you wish to create. Take the color red, for example; most people have an immediate and sometimes negative reaction to it. Red is a color that is full of energy and contains specific emotional attachments. A room painted entirely in red might feel a little unnerving. When used on a smaller section, however, red is very effective in creating excitement and interest.

Cool paint colors

On the opposite spectrum are cool blues and soft grays. These are often used as an overall color palette. They are quite versatile, as they work well with many contemporary design schemes. Cool colors such as these may create a calming effect on those within the space. Cool paint colors may work well when paired with silver metallic home décor, for example.

Earth-toned paint colors

Colors that rest in the middle of these opposite effects are neutral colors such as beige and tan. Neutral paint colors are classic choices that work well with many different design schemes and are an appealing option for that reason. Earth-toned paint colors have more moderate energy than red-tones, and they may give the home a warm and inviting feel. Natural elements such as plants, wood furniture and warm leather materials may be especially suited when placed into a room painted with earth-toned hues.

Special Effects

Did you know that selecting the right paint color can actually make a room look larger? Even tiny spaces can look bigger by using colors such as cream colors and icy blues. Lighter colors have a tendency to make a room appear bigger and brighter. These colors are more reflective and when exposed to natural light, the optical illusion is magnified. If a darker color of wall is desired, you may want to paint your wall trim and moldings in a lighter color than the walls. This also draws the eye upward, which can make the walls appear taller.

Bedroom with painted wall murals

A room can be painted in several colors, if done artfully. Other than making sure that the chosen colors complement each other, you need to know which walls in the space should be painted in the complementing color. Some modern homes feature stenciled patterns that have been painted on by an artist. Small wall sections may feature these stenciled patterns on an accent wall in a room to serve as a focal point. Wall paintings can be drawn out and painted by hand by an artist. Having a personalized wall mural painted in a child’s bedroom is a common example of this. Painted wall murals give a child’s room a splash of personality and imagination.

The DIY fad is enjoyable and exciting. For more complicated tasks, however, doing it yourself is not always the best option. Experts suggest you save yourself the time, money and headaches by hiring a professional to handle the work for you. With just the right paint, a completely new and updated look can be yours.
